Parental alienation is the process by which one parent systematically turns a child against the other parent without legitimate justification. When the father is the targeted parent, the alienating mother (or, less often, another caregiver) employs a range of strategies—badmouthing, limiting contact, portraying him as unsafe, encouraging the child to spy or keep secrets, and rewarding rejection.
